Animatics

Inspired by visual story tellers such as James Baxter and June Gustin, I wanted to create animatics that tell a story in a short amount of time while looking visually interesting.

Just like you

Over the quarantine, my roommate and I created characters for the Dream SMP, a story that popular internet personalities created and published. Our two characters were Oleander and Analease, two people with bird wings. The story followed them living through a rebellion, a war, and their life after that war.
The animatic explores their relationship. Analease tries her best to keep Oleander out of conflict and attempts to help her lead a peaceful life, but Oleander looks up to Analease who is a solider, and because of the war, follows in her footsteps.

Eighth Wonder

When I was a kid, my favorite book series was Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter. The book series follows multiple different cats as they live their lives in a forest. My favorite character was Cinderpelt, a young cat whose life got derailed by breaking her leg. I was inspired by her journey of self acceptance; and wanted to create an animatic exploring her arc of being self conscious about her leg and the life she wanted, to accepting and loving herself and the life she found.

God's Whisper

The animatic is based off my friends Jojo's Bizarre Adventure character, Bo. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a manga created by Hirohiko Araki. In the Jojo universe everyone has a super power that physically manifests as a person called a Stand- for Bo, it's the ability to manipulate other's emotions. She does this through her stand, Apple Tree. Apple Tree can turn people's emotions into apples, and Bo can choose to eat those apples to feel or steal that person emotions.
I wanted to explore Bo's complex relationship with her powers, as it's something that she relies on it to regulate her own emotions while also having a great deal of hate towards. The animatic is about Bo struggling to make sense of this dilemma. The ending is left intentionally vague, as it could be seen as her eating her own emotions again, or her learning to accept her powers and her own emotions.
